Accra, Ghana — 9 July 2025
The nation has been rocked by the shocking death of Stephen King Amoah, a 38-year-old officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, whose charred body was discovered today in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Authorities are treating the incident as a case of premeditated murder, and a manhunt is underway for suspects.
Disappearance Sparks Alarm
Amoah, a respected officer and family man, went missing on 3 July 2025 after leaving his home at Ashongman Estate to meet a friend following a WhatsApp message. When he failed to return home and could not be reached on his phone, his family reported him missing. The sudden disappearance raised immediate concern among friends, colleagues, and law enforcement, prompting a swift search operation.
Discovery of the Body
Six days after he was reported missing, Amoah’s body was discovered severely burned in a drainage area. Despite the horrific state of the remains, his family confirmed his identity. The gruesome nature of the crime has left the local community and the public in shock. “The brutality of this act is beyond comprehension,” said a senior police official. “We are working tirelessly to identify and apprehend all persons responsible for this heinous crime.”
Police Investigation Underway
Initial investigations have led police to arrest at least one primary suspect, identified as
Bright Aweh (also known as “Highest Bright”), with reports indicating a second suspect, Thomas Zigah, is also involved. Investigators recovered crucial evidence at the suspects’ residence, including blood-stained camouflage fabric, a burnt woollen carpet, and a fufu pestle wrapped in polythene. A vehicle belonging to one of the suspects reportedly contained human blood traces. DNA samples from the victim’s family have been collected to help confirm links to the crime scene.
Community Reaction
The news has sparked outrage nationwide, with citizens expressing concern over personal safety and the security of law enforcement officers. Many Ghanaians have taken to social media to demand swift justice and stricter measures to prevent such violent crimes. Friends and colleagues remember Amoah as a dedicated officer, a loving husband, and a devoted father. “He was always committed to his work and his family,” said a close friend. “It’s a tragic loss for everyone who knew him.”
Funeral Arrangements
The family has announced that the funeral will be held on 21 September 2025 at the SDA Church in Old‑Tafo (4 Miles), running from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The community is expected to pay their respects to the fallen officer during this period.
Next Steps
The Ghana Police Service has pledged to pursue the investigation diligently. The suspects currently face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. As forensic analysis continues, police stress the importance of public cooperation in providing any information that may assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice. Stephen King Amoah’s tragic death serves as a somber reminder of the dangers that even law enforcement officers can face and the pressing need for vigilance and security in our communities.
